3DS Max Character

I really like the the final rendered look of this. The problem is that I haven't found a way to actually animate the character, say make him walk, successfully.

Sea Effect

Made this in 3ds max to see how I could simulate water. It was pretty tricky and still needs some work.

2D mixed with 3D test

Not sure about this yet. It's almost there but the lighting isn't quite right. Maybe will make another scene with static lights

Man and Dog Short Animation

Animation of man and dog character. I'm going to use this to see if I can use 2D animated characters in 3ds max scenes. I'm hoping the outcome will look good and this should allow me to go deeper into 3ds max.

Depth of Field and Motion Blur Test

Depth of Field Test

Worked out how to alter the depth of field.

Light Test 03

Physics simulation in 3ds max. The light shade now has some weight and falls down onto the floor.

More light testing

Better lights...yum

Light Test 02

Playing with lights

Made this in 3ds max. Quite a cool light effect. Pretty happy with that.

Cell shading test 02

Having a lot of trouble trying to get the right effect I want to achieve. I want to get a quite realistic cell shading effect for models in 3ds max. I hope to use this on the background scenes for the animation.

Almost an animatic...

Storyboard 01

The Wind and the Sun

The Wind and the Sun were disputing which was the stronger. Suddenly they saw a traveller coming down the road, and the Sun said: "I see a way to decide our dispute. Whichever of us can cause that traveller to take off his cloak shall be regarded as the stronger. You begin."

So the Sun retired behind a cloud, and the Wind began to blow as hard as it could upon the traveller. But the harder he blew the more closely did the traveller wrap his cloak round him, till at last the Wind had to give in despair.

Then the Sun came out and shone in all his glory upon the traveller, who soon found it too hot to walk with his cloak on.

Kindness affects more than severity.

The Goat and the Goatherd

A GOATHERD had sought to bring back a stray goat to his flock.
He whistled and sounded his horn in vain; the straggler paid no
attention to the summons. At last the Goatherd threw a stone,
and breaking its horn, begged the Goat not to tell his master.
The Goat replied, "Why, you silly fellow, the horn will speak
though I be silent."

Do not attempt to hide things which cannot be hid.

The Milkmaid and Her Pail

Patty the Milkmaid was going to market carrying her milk in a
Pail on her head. As she went along she began calculating what
she would do with the money she would get for the milk. "I'll buy
some fowls from Farmer Brown," said she, "and they will lay eggs
each morning, which I will sell to the parson's wife. With the
money that I get from the sale of these eggs I'll buy myself a new
dimity frock and a chip hat; and when I go to market, won't all
the young men come up and speak to me! Polly Shaw will be that
jealous; but I don't care. I shall just look at her and toss my
head like this. As she spoke she tossed her head back, the Pail
fell off it, and all the milk was spilt. So she had to go home
and tell her mother what had occurred.

"Ah, my child," said the mother,

"Do not count your chickens before they are hatched."

A stitch in time saves nine

A stitch in time saves nine means that if a job needs doing it is better to do it now, because it will only get worse, like a hole in clothes that requires stitching.

Stop Motion Test 02

Here's my second attempt with a walk cycle. Character made from some thin card and stuck together with blue tack. Looks alright, just need to practise more. Although I can see this technique being very difficult to use with such a short amount of time.

Stop Motion Test 01

First attempt at setting up and doing some stop motion with my digital camera.
Bit crap but wanted to try it out.

Hmmm stop motion you say...

Nice little free program I found to aid in stop frame animation.
Gonna try it out
Here's the link.

Hooded character

More character design ideas

Under the Cherry Tree

Pretty cool music video for the song 'Under the Cherry Tree' by Australian band Telemetry Orchestra’s. See the video here.

3DS Max Test

Here are some screenshots from some testing in 3ds max. Was trying to create a 3 dimensional character from a 2 dimensional drawing. Also working out how to do reflections.

Animations coming soon...

Some ideas and characters....very rough

My bunny character.

A man and dog character. Could be into the background somewhere.

The sky farm?? In the future animals start to become extinct because they are being killed for food. This is how they have evolved to protect themselves. Hmmm pretty rubbish...

This is what happens to the washing up when it gets left for about 2 months.

Urrrrgh.... What's this about again?

The Old Lady and the Pigeons

La Vieile Dame et les Pigeons (The Old Lady and the Pigeons), released early in 1997, has spent the past year collecting awards at animation and film festivals around the world, including the grand prize at Annecy, The World Animation Celebration, and the prestigious Cartoon D'Or Best European Animated Film Award. The 23-minute, cel-animated film tells the story of a hungry French police man who spots an old woman in the park, feeding rich pastries to a thankful flock of overweight pigeons. Disguising himself as a giant pigeon, the man visits and is generously fed by the old woman, only to discover her true intentions are more foul than fowl.
